Julia hoped to have a natural birth in a birth center and spent a lot of her pregnancy working with insurance to get that covered, but ended up at a hospital midwife practice for her prenatal care and birth. During pregnancy, she was told her baby had enlarged kidneys and required extra ultrasounds to keep an eye on the growth. Julia went into labor with steady contractions 3 days before her due date and labored at home all weekend. Once contractions intensified, she called her doula to the house where she labored a few more hours before heading to the hospital. She labored through the night with her husband and doula and chose to get her water broken around 5:00am, then progressed through transition. Ellie Jane was born after 2 hours of pushing at 9:25am on her due date. Immediate postpartum was challenging with significant bleeding and lots of medications administered, but the longer recovery was very successful and overall, postpartum was a blissful experience.
